#1 Cadillac Dpi at watkins glen
Welcome to One photo, one story, a series of posts in which I'll upload one picture and talk a little bit about the story behind it. To kickstart this series. I'll begin with one of my favorite shots: Cadillac DPi at Watkins Glen.
Why is it one of my favorite shots? Well, because when I thought of the composition, the result through the viewfinder looked similar to the image I had in my mind. After a couple of cars, the #31 Cadillac came roaring from the heel straight towards me and I shot a short burst. When I took a look at the preview on the camera I knew it was a great shot straight away (the small screen can be a liar sometimes). A week after the race, I returned home and first thing I did is download the photos and go straight to that specific photo. There it was, looking as good as I imagined it and how it looked on the camera screen.
What makes it special? Well, for me, it was my first ever IMSA race. I didn't know what to expect and was completely blown by the event. Being in a historic circuit which I have seen on TV and driven on simulator so many times was something special. I was as impressed by what I saw on the circuit and off it as well. The GT3s and the prototypes going at full speed and, on the spectator areas, the cars, the RVs, campsites, everything. Paddock and circuit access was something that I didn't know how to handle, because I have never been in a place where you had access to everyone and everything. To top it off, I got to seat in an LMP2 car when the race ended.
So... Is it a good photo? Some may say yes other, others may say no. I'll let you to decide. For me it definitely is a great photo.
